In the July 11, 2016 edition of KomoNews an article composed by Mark Miller titled ‘Puyallup police crackdown on abandoned junk cars left in the street’ informed us the following: “A beat-up old Z28 Camaro parked on a residential street could be an eye-popping classic muscle car. But it was tagged by a Puyallup Police parking enforcement officer because it’s considered an abandoned vehicle. Police have launched a crackdown after citizen complaints about beaten up cars and trucks recently.
Deputy Chief Dave McDonald says it is a quality of life issue; people don’t want to have to view abandoned cars on the streets. He says the department is asking the citizens to report suspected junk vehicles. While many people call because they object to the ugliness and because abandoned vehicles can bring down their neighborhood, reporting such cars and trucks helps police solve crimes. A lot of cars that have been stolen are recovered this way. People often call in, so we would run the plate and find it was stolen. Under city law, a car cannot remain parked on a public street for more than seventy-two hours in a row. When a parking vehicle officer tags a vehicle, they write time on the window and place a sticker on the windshield, which is a warning that the vehicle can be towed at the owner’s expense if not moved in 72 hours. If no contact is made or we get no response, then these cars are towed away. The full story is available here.
In another similar effort to clear the streets of unwanted vehicles, on the timesheraldonline.com a story with the headline of ‘Vallejo police start ridding streets of abandoned vehicles’ informed us as follows: “An abandoned vehicle enforcement operation conducted recently impounded 71 cars for various violations, Vallejo PD officials said. The Traffic Division and the Community Services, along with other staff, checked 271 cars that had been reported to police as being possibly abandoned. Of those, 185 were found to be currently registered & legally parked.
The Vallejo PD encourages anyone who has a vehicle that is not registered, missing key components needed to operate or otherwise abandoned on a city street, to have it moved in compliance with local law. You can report abandoned vehicles in multiple ways: by phone — (707) 648-4682, on the internet — www.ci.vallejo.ca.us, click on City Hall, Police, Online Services,” officials said.” The article can be viewed in its entirety here.
