That would be comparable to about 72% of total national plug-in sales last year. While city leaders seek more lower-emission cars to lessen the role city traffic plays in impacting the climate, automakers say there aren’t truly that many buyers. The Trump team does seek to remove regulations which are stifling industry

Many cities are asking about cars that don’t exist yet, such as electric fire department vehicles and commercial trucks.  This is predominately a Democrat-based movement. Auto manufacturers have been aggressively attempting to meet emission reduction deadlines. For whatever reason, citizens still like gas-powered vehicles. Los Angeles began the efforts for a shared electric-vehicle ordering to reduce pricing and increase demand during the Paris climate change environmental conference back in late 2015.”

The March 2, 2017 edition of the Maui News informed us of an auto scrap recycling program: “Those residing in Maui County may now dispose of (1) vehicle each year for free via a new county abandoned auto program. An Abandoned Vehicles – Junk Vehicle Disposal Assistance Program (JVDAP), has been established, allowing for the free scrap of a car annually until funding is consumed, according to the local Department of Environmental Management.  Local inhabitants of the area are required to register these old vehicles as “permanently junked” and then bring them to Hammerhead Metals, the participating metals recycling facility.

Users will be asked to complete a brief survey to monitor the progress of the program. Owners are required to bring proper documents to participate. Eligibility includes passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks and vans weighing up to 3 tons. They further asked that the cars are cleaned of excessive household trash or other waste. They cannot accept camper shells when they are junked. Vehicles may be brought in with fluids and are accepted regardless of condition. The JVDAP is funded through a Highway Beautification & Abandoned Vehicles Fund, generated from annual vehicle registration fees.  It assists those residents in disposing of their junk vehicles safely and legally while eliminating the volume of abandoned vehicles littering the roads.
