  • Identification of other climate-related hazards: This step involves cooperation is uncovering aspects of the community where environmental improvements can be made.
  • Completion of questionnaires: This phase of the process creates goals and effectively implements a means of measuring improvement.

Here is an excerpt from the UCLA study on Alternative & Renewable Fuel & Vehicle Program:  “This study is intended for a broad audience of decision makers & those seeking to move PEV adoption in MUDs and particularly, those in the South Bay region. Many auto owners may find the study useful and this would include regional, municipal entities; state agencies; utility reps; MUD unit owners; members of homeowner groups; as well as PEV & possible PEV drivers. Regional and municipal planners should utilize this report to enable PEV adoption where latent desire in present and simplistic install is needed. By covering the area’s MUD portfolio, this report allows planners to think and conduct targeted outreach & course of action for MUD sites for strategic interventions.

State-based organizations should use this study to comprehend the MUD related barriers to adopting PEV and consider various tools, such as rebates, that lower costs associated with installing EVSE at MUD sites.  Utility reps may find the report beneficial in the identification for where PEV demand and relative electrical growth be most rapid on the area. So Cal Edison (SCE), the major electric utility in the area, just received approval for the 1st Phase of a Charge Ready rollout to install charging infrastructure at extended dwell-time sites, such MUDs, where PEV drivers are parked for at least 4 hours. SCE may use this study to help identify specific parcels to reach out and other PEV programs.  Property administrators and those in homeowner associations (HOAs) should utilize this report to appreciate the elements of a building’s electrical network and to better analyze the costs of installing PEV at-home charging variables. Current PEV owners and those considering ownership of them should use this study to fully understand the potential costs of installation of PEV charging units at home.” The study in full format is available here.

Ohio Struggling with Recycling

We are here and ready for you to sell a car for cash in Montgomery, Mifflin, or New Rome, OH. Those looking for a spot to sell a junk car for fast cash in Lake Darby, Whitehall, or Worthington, should call us. Where is a good place to sell an old car in the regions of Lockbourne, Marble Cliff, and Harrisburg, OH? Believe it or not, even a totaled car has some kind of salvageable value in Riverlea, Urbancrest, and Minerva Park, OH. When deciding where to scrap a car in Franklin County, be sure to check that the recycler is an advocate for the environment.

An October 2016 article in The Courier by Denise Grant states: “Lorain County’s recycling program, which includes the recycling of glass bottles, is common for Ohio, according to the state EPA. The focus is the public’s resolve to recycle in the first place, according to Keith Bailey, the existing director of the Lorain County Solid Waste District, a veteran of over thirty years in the industry. There are places for both private and public sectors in environmental recycling. In Hancock County, the recycling program’s first, Litter Landing, is running at a $300K annual loss. It has an archaic baler for cardboard and plastics; works with an aging glass crusher; and annually ships roughly 200 tons of various glass products over to Pennsylvania. Mixed glass rides along for free because it has zero value.

Litter Landing isn’t accepting glass anymore and Hancock County’s recycling program is on life-support. With residents totaling 300,000, nearly (4) times that of Hancock County, Lorain County (LC) handled 5,234 tons of glass in 2014.  LC’s solid waste coordination plan is more than just gathering junk in a bin for shipping elsewhere. A good plan is said to be the best starting point for making adjustments. There is a theory that we’re making money selling recyclables. Many of the recycleable material needs be subsidized. Most of LC’s recycling is done with mobile roll-off bins, with materials processed by private companies. The county facilitates all hazardous waste, as the private sector has been reluctant to do so. LC officials have been occupied with the EPA to find a major glass processor, like Rumpke Consolidated Companies, which is a bit closer (in Dayton). Fees which are collected by the Hancock County Landfill are purposed to balance out recycling losses.  Glass is just difficult to handle and costs labor. A tractor-trailer load of clean brown or clear glass has value of only $200.

EPA officials Marie Barnett, Ernie Stall & Chet Chaney talked about resuming glass recycling, but growing it to include bottles from businesses. Rumpke is one of the US’ bigger privately-held waste recyclers. They are capable of handling 80,000 tons of glass annually. They could offer a market for Hancock County’s glass & limit handling concerns.   In 2014, Litter Landing had operating expenses totaling $436,930.   In 2015, the deficit nearly doubled.”
