John Allen’s son John, lost control of his car and hit a pole on Highway 141. His son was merely 22 years old and had been battling demons and was hooked on thrills and alcohol. Allen’s son may be gone; however, the wrecked vehicle remains.
The vehicle is mounted on top of a trailer in the back of his property; Allen shields the vehicle as best he can. He wishes to use the car as a reminder for others of the dangers associated with drunk driving. He wants to use the car to show students attending prom or DUI offenders. His Homeowner’s Association is not supporting the initiative. Letters from the HOA were received after they fielded complaints about the car, wanting him to remove it. They indicated that they had authority to remove the car at his expense.
The HOA had a lawyer, thus Allen was unsure how to get an exception to the provision. No one agreed to speak on camera, but after several calls and emails, the HOA’s lawyer changed his mind. Allen then received a letter stating they it wouldn’t be a junk vehicle as long as it’s used for education. The car was allowed to remain and Allen was relieved. They are working with the local chapter of MADD as well as local schools, who may use the car to illustrate the danger associated with drunk driving.”
